Ltd (HBTL) was established in 2000 as a consortium of community enterprises with the aim of sustainable and ethical sourcing of the highest quality products and marketing the value added products to international markets. HBTL’s founding mission was to use underutilized, sustainable forest resources to provide incomes for community forest user groups. Indigenous, smallholder farmers occupy Nepal’s Himalayan forest communities in remote and rural areas, and HBTL’s goal is to link these communities produce with high value international markets. HBTL provides technical and financial support to sourcing enterprises, value addition, product development and diversification and marketing the products. HBTL deals with handmade paper products, essential oils, vegetable oils and butter, herbs and aromatherapy and personal care products. HBTL has been working with Aveda Corp since 2004 initiating the forest certification program in Nepal and marketing the certified natural products to international markets.
