 | Impact, special achievements & commitments | | | The activities of Givaudan and its partners have an impact at different levels on the clove leaf oil supply chain:
• Social impact: The producers, as well as workers and the communities benefit from the engagement into fair trade certification. For workers the social impact include: social insurance, flexible working hours, trainings, continuous improvement of safety at work. Clove leaf oil producers benefit from stable revenues, continuous of security and hygiene conditions, funding of social projects which benefit the whole community. • Environmental impact: The preservation of the environment is at the heart of the concerns in all collection activities of Givaudan. The partnership between Givaudan and the NGO AIM (Action Intercoopération Madagascar) with the producer groups started in 2011, with the goal to create nurseries and plantations for firewood use, thus reducing the environmental impact of the distillation activity of clove leaves. In 2015, 40’000 firewood trees have been planted by the producers for their own use. Givaudan is also concerned with the sustainability of the production cycle, therefore facilities to compost distillation waste have been installed in the distilleries. • Impact on the revenue of producers: The collection network created by Givaudan and its partner Spices and Oil takes part in securing the sector's future. Stable and sustainable income is ensured to producers by guarantying a continuous relationship with all commercial partners involved. The impacts are concrete for all actors of the sector. The supply chain is professionalizing: opening of bank accounts for producers, contracts, loans to producers, stable and constant revenues, trainings in traceability and accounting. |
