The Ouèzena Federation of Nahouri was created in 2011 and brings together 4 unions and more than 1200 members. Its headquarters are in Pô, in the Center-Sud region of Burkina Faso. It promotes the socioeconomic development of women through the sustainable exploitation of non-timber forest products in general and shea in particular.
Shea is the main source of income in these rural areas for women who face various constraints and difficulties. The resource is threatened due to demographic pressure, poor exploitation and climate change. Only sustainable exploitation, good organization of collectors, and quality products will enable the resource to be exploited sustainably. The grassroots member collectors are the primary beneficiaries of the process and thus of the development fund.
