KANY, a women's initiative for women
KANY is a cooperative made up entirely of women and based in the village of Séguié, in the Agboville region in the south of Côte d'Ivoire. It is a project that aims to promote women, transparency and sustainability in the production and marketing of agricultural products, mainly cocoa.

Women are the foundation of society and to develop women is to develop society. KANY is made up exclusively of female cocoa plantation owners or sponsored by male cocoa plantation owners. The sponsorship concerns men who have plantations and who wish to participate in this initiative. In this case they have to designate a woman (their spouse (s), their cousin sisters, friends ....) who will be a member on behalf of the plantation and who will benefit from the activities of the program and part of the cocoa income , in particular half of the certification premiums. Currently KANY is made of more than 80 women, 20% of them own their own farm.

Transparency because ethical and fair trade practices are a guarantee of success in a sector where fraud on volumes and lack of product traceability are common and where small producers remain the weak link. KANY which means light in Akan language wants to act differently, paying fair prices and premiums in accordance with regulatory and certification requirements. KANY reports transparently to its members on all its activities and on cocoa revenues.

Sustainability because a development that does not take social and environmental aspects into account is bound to experience short-, medium- or long-term failures. KANY opts for an organic-Fair Trade approach, part of whose revenues will be used to finance community and environmental actions. The development initiated by women and for women, with activities linked to health and education, is at the heart of its sustainability approach.
