Impact, special achievements & commitments | Phongsaly province is located in the most northern part of Laos of which 90.9 % is of high mountainous topography and is also situated in the highly productive tea growing area with an average elevation of 1,183.5 masl and average temperatures of between 14.6 °C and 23.2 °C. Phongsaly tea has been recognized as having a unique rich and sweet taste and high quality by customers’ experience. Phongsaly district and provincial authorities has been promoting tea plantation since 1994/95 as replacement of opium poppy. Tea is a main agricultural product and has been considered as one of the seven prioritized products of Phongsaly province with long history of ancient tea resources of more than 400 years in Loungching village and other 28 villages with plantation tea areas in Phongsaly district and other 6 districts in the province which have average number of production in 3,300 ton/year of fresh leaves. Those areas are chemical free (organic by default) with such good resource and potential to commercially produce the tea. | |||||||
