Impact, special achievements & commitmentsFounded in 1693, Leeuwenkuil Farms, which include Mooigelee farm, Knollefontein farm, Langvlei farm, Leeuwenkuil farm and Karnemelksvlei farm has been home to seven generations of the Dreyer family. Their love of the land and respect for nature serve as the foundation for the over 1300 hectares of vineyard the family are custodians to.

Leeuwenkuil, or “Lion’s Lair”, was given its alluring name as a tribute to the ferocious Cape Lion that roamed the farmlands hunting unsuspecting cattle.

Situated at the gate of the Swartland, Leeuwenkuil crafts an array of wines well-suited to the climate and soil of this region. We work with both old and new world winemaking styles to keep things both traditional and fresh. Currently 27 permanent, 10 tempory and 380 subcontracted workers working these hectares of vines.

Leeuwenkuil is a family business with a strong focus on family values. This means that we consider everyone we work with a part of the Leeuwenkuil family – be they owners, managers or employees.

Owner Willie Dreyer beliefs - we do not inherit the land from our fathers, but borrow it from our children. That is why we have a responsibility towards the education of our children and the development of our people.

With the focus on being a sustainable business we need to work in harmony with the environment and we are committed with the help of our social worker to provide the opportunity to our people to improve their lives and aspire to their highest potential and add value to the development of their community.
