| Impact, special achievements & commitments | | | Dr. Bronner’s was founded in 1948 by Emanuel Bronner, a third- generation master soapmaker from a German-Jewish soapmaking family. He used the labels on his superb ecological soaps to spread his message that we must realize our transcendent unity across religious & ethnic divides: “We are All-One or None!” Still family-owned and run, Dr. Bronner’s honors its founder’s vision by making socially & environmentally responsible products of the highest quality - and by dedicating our profits to help make a better world.
Our relationships with our organic suppliers is direct, local, personal, sustainable, tangible, and verifiable. It’s a way for customers to know that the products they’re purchasing will have a real and positive impact on the people and communities who make them. For us it’s a continuation of Emanuel Bronner’s legacy. He wanted to change the world for the better with the label on our bottles. We want to do the same with what’s inside.
Dr. Bronner’s has created or partnered with fair trade and organic projects all over the world: in Ghana for cocoa and palm oil, Sri Lanka and Samoa for coconut oil, Palestine and Israel for olive oil, India for mint oil, Ecuador for palm kernel oil, Indonesia for coconut sugar, and Brazil for cane sugar. Beyond ensuring fair prices for farmers, and living wages & excellent working conditions for workers, our projects combined have also invested more than $2.5 million in fair trade premiums, have benefitted more that 20,000 people directly and indirectly, and have helped fund a variety of local community development projects. These include building water systems, public toilet facilities, a maternity ward, and vital infrastructure - such as bridges, road & electricity to connect rural villages, as well as supplying mosquito nets to protect against malaria, and funding school renovations & vocational training for disadvantaged youth.
You can learn more about Dr. Bronner's supply chain practices on drbronner.com/about or in the new book by our VP of Special Operations, Gero Leson - "Honor Thy Label: Dr. Bronner's Unconventional Journey to a Clean, Green, and Ethical Supply Chain."
In all we do, let us be generous, fair & loving to Spaceship Earth and all its inhabitants. For we're All-One or None! All-One!
