Social Impact
Social Impact & Special AchievementsSince the beginning in the 2008, Olivado has shown great efforts to act as a socially responsible and fair company. All contracted farmers have a contract, and Olivado supports these producers with training on organic and fair trade issues. The role of women in the society is actively encouraged by Olivado. Since Olivado contracts such a large number of farmers whose farms are scattered across a very large region, establishment of community projects isn't realistic. Farmers are therefore directly paid the premium as additional income. Training is offered by the company to the farmers on how to invest the sales proceeds. Many farmers have bought livestock or built houses with the premium money they received. Olivado's main objective is to be able to make a big difference in the lives of their contracted smallholders, by increasing both their productivity and the quality of production. In order to satisfy the expectation of farmers, Olivado has established a packhouse for packing of fresh avocados. The company is currently buying fresh fruits for export and thus offer the farmers more benefits in terms of better prices.
Use of Fair Trade PremiumOlivado pays the FairTrade fund directly to individual farmers. Most farmers invest their money into sustainable business investment such as livestock. This decision was arrived at after the operator looked into the actual needs of the contracted farmers, as no community projects can be carried out due to very scattered farmer location. The programme is spread out in seven counties.
