Social Impact
Social Impact & Special AchievementsDuring 2016, the workers identified the elderly and the young as the most vulnerable in the community. As a result in 2017 they made decisions to try and make a difference in these areas. By receiving food packages, the children playing soccer in the tournament do not go hungry during the day and are able to play better and enjoy the day more. The government social grants are not adequate and so soup kitchens play a vital role in ensuring people have the opportunity to receive a decent meal. By assisting 2 soup kitchens to buy necessary items, more meals are provided to the most vulnerable members of society. Although not through use of the FFL premium fund, other areas in which Khoisan Trading SA makes a social impact include: Donating products to local soup kitchens and for staff school fundraisers (and/or church bazaars/markets). On a bi-weekly basis taking all staff to the shops to do their shopping and giving them a lift home afterwards. Providing the staff with free unlimited Wifi on the premises. Assisting children of staff with access to the internet to do assignments. Giving staff the afternoon off on their birthdays. Collecting funds for Velddrfit Animal Care charity by auctioning off old, donated clothing.
Use of Fair Trade PremiumIn 2017 the workers and FFL committee members decided on 2 premium fund spends. The first was in March and involved making up food packages for under 13 teams participating in a soccer tournament. The second was in June and was a cash donation to 2 soup kitchens that cater to the elderly and underprivileged children. More specific details can be found in the FFL Annual Premium Report. Due to the fact that there was subdued demand for FFL certified salt this year, no further spends occurred.
