Certification for fair trade and responsible supply chains
Impact, special achievements & commitmentsAs a German-Kenyan company, LIMBUA views itself as an innovative link between small-scale farmers in Africa and demanding quality customers from all over the world. Using technology to a high degree enables the direct support and supervision of the small-scale farmers and an effective value addition of macadamia and other crops from their mixed farms. This approach not only improves the small-scale farmers incomes, but also the value for the customers. By focusing strictly on organic agriculture, LIMBUA not only protects the environment in the producing countries, but also the health of the small-scale farmers and consumers. Already since its creation LIMBUA follows a unique, holistic philosophy. It operates modern decentralized production facilities directly at the locations of the small-scale farmers. This helps to reduce transport costs and to preserve the freshness and quality of the raw materials. Even more important to LIMBUA is the fact that this enables the company to involve the small-scale farmers into the process of value addition to a higher degree. Most of the employees in the production facilities come from farming families in the surrounding regions that are able to process their own raw materials in this way. In some processing steps LIMBUA intentionally prefers handcraft to further increase the product quality. Like this the company creates additional jobs in the countryside and therefore counters the emergence of slums in the big cities. LIMBUA opted for Fair for Life certification to further improve their services to the farmer communities and to make these efforts more visible to its customers.
